Some time ago I purchased an Olympus XZ-1 for a personal point & shoot camera. I haven’t had a ton of time to get it out and play with it, but I have gotten a bit of a chance. There were several things that drew me to the XZ-1. First, the lens on this camera is spectacular, especially for a P&S. The real reason I was hoping to try this camera was for it’s “super macro” mode. The XZ-1 has an incredible depth of field when using this mode. It also focuses at a minimum distance of 1 cm…that stands for centimeter! I don’t know how long it’s been since you measured something in centimeters, but that’s pretty dang close! That is what enables the great depth of field from this P&S camera. I really like that. It also fits in my pocket…another plus!
So, one day I took this camera around an abandoned office building in my home town. This building has a few floors that are strictly used for storage, and some of the stuff has been there for a very long time, or so it appears.
Without further a due…some “super macro” shots from the XZ-1
First, is an old oven that I took a close up shot of the knob of. Technicals: ISO 200, F/2.8 and 1/320th @ 6mm
Next up is some old circuit boards I found. Technicals: ISO 200, F/1.8 and 1/20th @ 6mm
Here is a shot of an enormous collection of florescent tubes. Technicals:ISO 200, F/5.6 and 1/20th @ 6mm
The last shot is of some of the old letters used on an old school press. Mainly, the letter F. Technicals: ISO 200, F/2.8 and 1/8th @ 6mm
You’ll notice some of the shutter speeds were a little slow. Another great feature of this camera is it’s built in image stabilization.
So far I am very pleased with this purchase and think it will be a great addition to my small bag when I simply don’t want to lug the DSLR around.
Thanks for looking!

Don’t let Sabrina see that letter collection, she will hound you to get to it. Some pretty amazing shots from that little P&S. Well done.
